Instrumental tuition in School -
Terms and Conditions

Below are the expectations and commitments applicable to Stockport Music Service and the parents/carers of pupils receiving instrumental tuition. In order to clarify the rights and obligations of both parties please read the terms and conditions carefully.

Your contract is for an academic year (or part thereof if booking later than September) and can be renewed on a rolling basis each school year. Your child must complete the Autumn term’s tuition and you will be charge in full for this term.

You are buying professional music tuition in school time from teachers employed by Stockport Music Service. For most instruments, lessons can be booked individually or in shared groups and will last no less than twenty minutes. Shared lessons usually consist of groups with two to four pupils, depending on the needs of the pupils. Lessons of a longer length can also be booked with a corresponding increase in the tuition fee applicable. There are three terms in the academic year. Charges will be payable on a termly basis and current fees can be seen below or on our website. The termly charge will be dependent upon the number of weeks lessons to be delivered. For a few instruments, e.g. recorder, the option for larger group lessons may also be available.

Any alterations to these basic guidelines would be negotiated with the individual parent/carer upon request.

Should you wish to cancel the lessons, we require a full calendar month’s notice in writing to Stockport Music Service. Notice must not be given to school or the music teacher. This can be by email to music.service@stockport.gov.uk or by post to Stockport Music Service, Werneth Young People's Centre, George Lane, Stockport, SK6 1DJ.

If a lesson is missed due to Stockport Music Service teacher absence, the lesson will be made up on an alternative date when possible and with the school’s agreement. Where a lesson is missed by our teacher and an alternative lesson cannot be accommodated, any monies due to be refunded at the end of the Summer term will be credited against the next year’s costs or reimbursed to parents.  However, lessons lost due to pupil absence, school trips/events or school closure etc. cannot be refunded.

Once your child has been added to the teacher's register you will receive a confirmation email giving you the start date and details on how to make payment for the first term's lessons. In the event that we are unable to accommodate your application we will contact you with the options available.
