Instrumental Tuition in School – Terms and Conditions
The following Terms and Conditions set out the agreement between Stockport Music Service and the parent/carer of any pupil receiving instrumental tuition.
By enrolling a pupil for lessons, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.
1. Contract Period
1.1 Your agreement with Stockport Music Service is for one academic year, or on a pro-rata basis where lessons commence after September 2026.
1.2 The Autumn Term forms part of the annual agreement and fees for this term are payable in full, regardless of whether a pupil chooses to discontinue lessons during the term.
2. Withdrawal from Lessons
2.1 Should you wish your child to discontinue instrumental tuition after the Autumn Term, you must provide a minimum of one full calendar month's written notice by email to music.service@stockport.gov.uk.
2.2 If you wish your child to cease lessons at the end of the Autumn Term, written notice must be received no later than 5 December.
2.3 Notice of withdrawal will only be accepted when submitted directly to Stockport Music Service by email. Notification given to the school or the instrumental teacher will not constitute valid notice.
3. Tuition Provision
3.1 Stockport Music Service provides professional instrumental tuition delivered during the school day by qualified teachers employed by the Service.
3.2 For most instruments, tuition is available as either:
Individual lessons of no less than 20 minutes; or
Shared lessons of no less than 20 minutes, typically comprising two to four pupils.
3.3 Where large-group recorder lessons are offered, these will be delivered in accordance with the arrangements agreed between the Service and the school.
4. Lesson Entitlement
4.1 Charges are based on the provision of 36 lessons during the academic year.
4.2 The number of lessons delivered within each school term may vary due to school term dates and holiday arrangements.
4.3 Where more than 36 lessons are delivered during the academic year, no additional charge will be made.
5. Fees
For the 2026–2027 academic year, the fees are as follows:
20-minute shared lesson: £10.85 per lesson
20-minute individual lesson: £21.70 per lesson
Large-group recorder lesson: £6.50 per lesson
The Service reserves the right to amend fees for future academic years.
6. Payment
6.1 Fees are payable in advance of the commencement of each school term unless an approved instalment payment plan has been agreed.
6.2 Failure to make payment may result in lessons being suspended or withdrawn until outstanding balances have been settled.
7. Missed Lessons
7.1 Where a lesson is cancelled due to the absence of a Stockport Music Service teacher, the Service will make every reasonable effort to arrange a replacement lesson, subject to agreement with the school.
7.2 Where it is not reasonably possible to provide a replacement lesson, the value of the missed lesson will be credited against the following academic year's fees or refunded to the parent/carer at the end of the Summer Term.
7.3 Refunds or replacement lessons will not be provided where lessons are missed due to circumstances outside the Service's control, including but not limited to:
pupil absence
school trips, performances or other school events
school closures
Different school holidays
examinations
adverse weather
any other circumstance preventing the pupil from attending the scheduled lesson.
8. General
8.1 Stockport Music Service will use reasonable endeavours to provide lessons in accordance with these Terms and Conditions but reserves the right to make reasonable changes to lesson schedules, teachers or arrangements where operationally necessary.
8.2 These Terms and Conditions apply for the duration of the pupil's enrolment and may be updated for future academic years.
