Instrumental tuition in school – Terms and conditions

Below are the expectations and commitments applicable to Stockport Music Service and the parents/carers of pupils receiving instrumental tuition. In order to clarify the rights and obligations of both parties please read the terms and conditions carefully.

Your contract is for an academic year (pro rata if applying after September 2025). You will be charged in full for the Autumn term irrespective of whether your child wishes to stop lessons part way through the term. Thereafter, should your child wish to stop lessons you need to give a full calendar months’ notice by email (music.service@stockport.gov.uk).  If your child wishes to stop at the end of Autumn term written notice must be received before 5 December.  Notice must not be given to school or the music teacher.

You are buying professional music tuition in school time from teachers employed by Stockport Music Service. For most instruments, lessons can be booked individually or in shared groups and will last no less than twenty minutes. Shared lessons usually consist of groups with two to four pupils.

You will be charged for 35 lessons over the whole academic year. Your child may receive more lessons but there is no charge for any lessons your child receives over 35.  The number of lessons provided in each term is dependent upon the start dates and school holidays.

Charges for the academic year 2025-2026:

A 20 minute shared lesson will cost £10.20 per lesson

A 20 minute individual lesson will cost £20.40 per lesson

Where large group recorder lessons are offered, the costs are equivalent to £6.00 per lesson

There are three terms in the academic year. Payment will be due in full before each term commences unless you have an instalment plan.  The current fees are shown above.

If a lesson is missed due to Stockport Music Service teacher absence, the lesson will be made up on an alternative date when possible and with the school’s agreement. Where a lesson is missed by our teacher and an alternative lesson cannot be accommodated, any monies due to be refunded at the end of the Summer term will be credited against the next year’s costs or reimbursed to parents.  However, lessons lost due to pupil absence, school trips/events or school closure etc. cannot be refunded.
