Information for Schools

Lessons & Ensembles

Stockport Music Service can provide instrumental and vocal lessons for your students during the school day. For more info, see our Lessons in school page.

Events

As well as lessons for pupils, Stockport Music Service organises a large number of concert, events and special performances for pupils to take part in.

Details of these are usually sent directly to school headteachers, music coordinators in primary schools and heads of departments in secondary schools. You can also check our Events page for information.

CPD

As part of the School Effectiveness team within Stockport Council, the Music Service supports all our schools so that they can give the most comprehensive music curriculum and the most exciting enrichment opportunities for all pupils.

Network meeting and courses are offered on a regular basis and details are sent directly to schools.

Schools can also have bespoke support from our School Liaison & CPD Coordinator and singing support from our Vocal Animateur.

Singing

Singing forms the heart of every child's musical education and Stockport Music Service has a vocal animateur who works with all our schools to provide bespoke training for school based colleagues and performance opportunities for pupils.

Performance opportunities and invites are sent directly to schools and support for singing in the classroom is provided by working in school with the class teachers to promote good practice and develop pedagogy.

You can find more information here.

National Plan for Music Education

The National Plan for Music Education (NPME) is a Govt. backed strategy to promote music education. Music rightly forms part of the National Curriculum in England and should be at the centre of school life. The NPME aims to underpin all the other musical activities that pupils might engage with, both in and out of school and more information can be found here.

The Greater manchester Music HUb

This is a collaboration of 9 local music services and 15 other partners. It aims to develop inspirational partnerships which enable children, including the most vulnerable, to enjoy high quality music making from the earliest beginnings, and to access a broad range of musical pathways in and beyond school, which promote self-confidence, ambition and achievement.

The Hub has established termly Singing in the Classroom Training, an annual Primary Schools' Singing Challenge and a variety of ensembles for students working at a more advanced level. The Vocal Vision Group has also organised resources and further events for schools. Further information can be found here
